Naming Typhoons

The Ancient Hindus had a very strong belief that each of natural forces are real HUMANS / BEINGS (GODS!!!), Like Varuna Bhagavan (Water / Ocean), Agni (Lord of Fire), Vayu (Lord of Air / Wind / Typhoons). So the Hindus had long practised the art of naming the natural forces by name.

This concept of naming the natural forces was lost during Time and now people have again started naming the Typhoons by names, Katrina etc.,.

Once again the statement holds true “HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF !!!!!”…

Women, Periods and Temples

If you are from an orthodox brahmin family, then you must be familiar with this term “Aathula illa”, women during their periods are considerd to be outside, (thou they stay in the house), they become untouchables for those days, they are not allowed to enter temples. Nobody is going to check them, but its considered as a self discipline.

I always find reasons as why customs are followed and this particular habit of preaching women as not to enter temples during their periods seemed ridiculous for me. I never found the answer until last month. It suddenly occured to me.(it may not be the best explanation one can give, but atleast it will attempt to)…

Killing is considered a sin (killing of any sort…animals / insects / eggs / humans)…temples are places where people pay respect for their gods, in hindu (run by Brahmin preists) temples are considered sacred, no killing must take place inside the temple, no corpse must enter the temple, again its not a rule, people dont do it themselves in order to pay respect to the gods they believe in.

Everybody must know what a menstruation cycle is, the unfertilized egg is removed from the body as a part of the natural process, which becomes a sort of killing by the body itself. here is an extract from a popular womens site

/quote/
As a woman releases an egg each month, the lining of her womb becomes thicker to prepare itself for pregnancy. This is known as the menstrual cycle. If the egg is fertilised, this lining will then gently cushion the egg as it develops into a baby. If the egg is not fertilised, both the egg and lining leave the woman’s body
/unquote/

so a egg(a proabable human) is getting ready, since it does not mature (or in abscense of a Sperm) the body termiates it. This is not a sin(its a part of how the body works), but still its a life that does not get a chance to survive.

So the women do not enter temples, becos there cannot be any kind of killing inside a temple.

and according to me this is the kind of thinking that has made people to impose the way of not going to temples during the periods….

p.s.
Hindu religion gives the ultimate respect to women, they are part of the male gods rather than a wife sitting next to the gods. Without Sakthi, Shiva is not complete.

Keep Fit

I never used to run / Jog / Walk a lot…i do weight training, but not cardio, i was fit and strong and well built tooo…i never had any dream of me running fast or walking slow…i never really thought abt that….

but once i started to work…i never found enuf time to look after my health, I never had time even to realize that health is as much important as wealth, then one day when playing cricket(a game so popular in India like FOOTBALL in BRAZIL)…i was not able run properly between wickets, infact i was not able to run at all…i realized WHAT HAVE I BECOME…i then started my workouts again, got confidence on myself…it took me 1 full year to reduce my weight from 100 to 81.

After my marriage in 2005, i joined Yoga classes, not just becos my wife practises it, but i was seeing the benifits she had, becos of that. I was so sincere for a year, i learnt good methods from one of the best teachers i ever had, i read good books, i got good guidance, i practised it with full concentration. we were planning for a kid

After an year and half of my marriage, i was blessed with a baby girl, now my responsibilities increased, i started loosing touch with Yoga.

Starting from this year 2008, i get dreams, i am being chased by someone(it changes everytime), sometimes my kid / boss / school friends / teachers / strangers…but how much ever i try to run, i was not able to. I walk as if i had some problems with my limbs, then i started my workout once again.

I lost 8 kilos in a matter of 35 days, there is no hidden secret in this …i just Ran…ran and ran…

i run for about 8 kms a day, no matter what. My legs ache of pain, but i still run, my tshirts will be drenched in sweat, but i still run, then finally i had a dream of me running fast, without panting, without feeling any tired

with this experience, i think that dreams are what we have become and what we desire for and what we have become, they are a sort of warning for forthcomming calamities, problems. Its a forecast of the future and a rememberence of the past.

Today i run, run and run a lot to keep myself fit, i started my YOGA practises once again, my kid joins with me in doing asanas. I will be writing more on this experience with my kid on YOGA later…

Cheers

Ashtanga Yoga

Yoga is the art of bending and stretching the body to extremes there by allowing the blood to flow through out the body. The normal person inhales only 10% to the capacity of the lungs, but as you practice yoga you will have to capability to inhale the air up to 100%. This allows the flow of more oxygen to all the parts of the body and maintains the body in harmony and with abundance energy.

The various asana that I am practicing till these days are

1) Surya namaskara – Sun salutations

2) Talasana

3) Tadasana

4) Uttana padasana

5) Padmasana – half lotus pose

6) komugasana

7) Uttitha padmasana – lifting the body in padmasana

8) Pachimoordasana

9) Sarvangasana

10) Halasana

11) Sirasana

12) Mayoorasana

13) Savasana

Each of them has their own dialect and variations and I am practising many types of Pranayamas and have seen the wonder that it makes in everyday life. IF any of you have any doubts regarding any of the asanas or if you feel that you are not able to find resources on practising an asana in the right manner, please do post comment and I will reply to your queries, as much as i can…. The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari – Review by Jagster

Preface…
Every book has a preface, why not a review !!!

I bought the book that he has suggested me and boarded the flight to Athens, it was a short journey and I fell asleep not realizing that I was about to get change. The night passed away and the fresh morning rose up. It was Sunday and I was taking the clothes out of my bag I found the book. After finishing the days work I started reading the book and completed it by the end of day, I sat silent for almost an hour realizing what I have missed so far in my life, I have not taken care of my health properly, not giving any time for myself and suddenly I started feeling empty.

Now about the book…
The book is about a well settled / wealthy / hefty businessman who got a heart attack and survives it, which in turn made a transformation in his life and thereby becoming a monk. The book will tell 7 most important things in life

develop joyful thoughts

follow your life’s mission and calling

look within for success

cultivate self-discipline and act courageously

value time as your most important commodity

nourish your relationships and

Live life fully, one day at a time.

Everyday you will see at least 7 people who are failing in these qualities and have no idea that they are lacking these, yet they justify that they are contented and happy, but the real character or happiness lies within the person and not with what he/she says.

By developing joyful thoughts we will be able to keep our mind young and thereby our body. We will have a positive radiant energy all around us and this is very contagious and will spread in all directions. We henceforth make people happy and you create a bond with each person you get in contact with.

Following our life’s mission: Some people do not know what they are doing and what they want to do. Even though they are two different things, they lack either of them. We need to have a code and live with it, and that code has to be your life’s mission.

Failures are the stepping stone to success and success is not that is outside but inside, think each of your failures are success and try to perform better each day, ultimately you will succeed and that will never make you feel like you are on the top of the world even when you are on top of the world, you will start having a modest approach over success and will win over it time and again.

Self discipline is not what you expect from others but what you give to others.

Lost time never comes back no matter what. We are now in the mystical world where time flies in jet and supersonic planes, as soon as you realize the day has started you will be rushing home for dinner. We must always cultivate the habit of having time to ourselves through some means, try to be alone and in silence, so that you are recharge spiritually.

These qualities when followed over time will change the way you see things and work in a more organized way and thereby producing quality results. It is not feasible to start following these principles in a day, it takes time and it has to be done one at a time and over a period you will start realizing that despite of your work pressures, you are accenting towards a better future.
