NEXT – Michael Crichton – Review and more

October 15, 2008

I met a very close friend of mine at Mumbai CST terminal, I was going back home to meet my family, i bumped upon him, we were friends from our 6th Grade, we were 10 yrs old, and we are still in touch with each other and we are struggling a lot to be in touch. Right from those days we all read a lot, and he reads a lot more that I do and his brother reads a lot more that he does, its his brother right !!!! He complained that I changed a lot after getting married, but I never really did change, marriage was the best thing in my life that had ever happened and there is no reason to get isolated from friends just becos I got married. ok, thts jst a brief of who we are…

Now, back to why i started to write this blog, I met him at the airport, eventhough he was trying to sit alone, i somehow insisted and sat next to him, he was with is brother, I was alone. After the flight started he pulled out a book, NEXT – by Michael Crichton, he was so anxious to read the book, but i was interrupting him remembering the old days, and talking abt old friends, the days at school, the prayer, the fights, the memories, etc., later I thought that i have to let him read, so he started reading, and in the middle he would say that I will like the book a lot, which made me to get my own copy. Later we landed at chennai and went our way, he must probably in his office again …working…

So, I bought my own copy of the book and started reading it, I wonder how he still remembers what I like, i did like the book a lot. It was fiction but still a good one to read, which provoked some faded thought in me…

it goes like this..

The book was about genetic alteration / mutation, laws which supports / opposes these researchs. People who get involved, talking orangs, fighting chimps, smoking dogs etc., genitically altered humans, who eventually lose their life, fame, power, passion, sex, madness…The book is a mixture of all these things, but still you never get lost, and the end you will find, it ends in a hurry.

my provoked, lost thoughts….
In this modern age when people are talking abt cross breads, humanze, chimp like kids etc., hindu mythology(i particularly hate to call it a MYTH) have written proofs of these kind of people who lived amogst us with extra ordinary powers, sample – hanuman, Garuda (the (wise and )speaking bird), a army with monkeys, the list will continue to be a long one. Does it mean that this genetic alteration of homo sapiens, happened a looong time then we could imagine ? are the hindus so powerful and wise enough to make these researchs earlier than other could imagine. I wandered with the thought for a week, but could not arrive at any conclusion, so just wanted to pen down my thoughts so that if someone, at someplace, reads it, and if it helped him to explore further, I would persnly be happy.
